In the USA...
In 2022, Unsilenced Voices gifted over $33,000 to 26 survivors in the USA for transportation, childcare and housing needs. We are launching a new coaching and subsidies program to provide survivors financial support after completing 3 months of comprehensive coaching about healing, life skills and financial literacy.
This training was created with the assistance of Misty Kerrigan, a mental health professional with over 16 years of experience in the field and over a decade of experience developing and implementing evidenced-based programs to transform the lives of at-risk young people and their families.

That money was incredibly helpful and I don’t know what I would have done without it. I had just enough money to move into my new place and have a bit extra for the upcoming months. This may be a temporary home as it is a little out of my budget but I am so deeply grateful for the opportunity to be and a beautiful, safe and spacious home with my children. Thank you so much again!

Our Story
Unsilenced Voices is a non-secular organization with no religious affiliation. However, we stand firm with Christian values and beliefs. Founded in 2017 by Michelle Jewsbury, Unsilenced Voices (UV) serves communities across America, Rwanda, Ghana, and Sierra Leone. We are revolutionizing the humanitarian sector by integrating Web3.0 technologies into its strategies; for example, UV accepts cryptocurrency donations thanks to a partnership with the Giving Block; we also hosted an NFT art competition enabling abuse survivors in Sierra Leone to earn income; and we're launching in the metaverse soon.
In 2022, UV hosted a four-city tour across America, holding free community events at which survivors received immediate help on-site and local organizations could learn and strengthen their resource networks. Meanwhile, families in Rwanda, Ghana and Sierra Leone are receiving vocational training for financial
independence, medical supplies, and abuse sensitization workshops.
UNITED STATES
Unsilenced Voices has partnered with organizations in specific cities around the country to provide direct services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and human trafficking while also providing education to the community by holding conferences in designated cities. We believe that it is important to improve access awareness and enhance the quality of life in our communities. We have a monthly support group via zoom to serve survivors.
SIERRA LEONE
Unsilenced Voices works with the Bo Women's Vocational Center to pay for survivors' job skills training, leading to employment beyond the sex trade. Additionally, we lead 3 monthly sensitization trainings to combat the silence and cultural acceptance of domestic violence. We are proud to build on this work with upcoming school-age trainings with local youth.
GHANA
In partnership with the Ark Foundation, Unsilenced Voices seeks funding to maintain a crisis shelter for women escaping abuse. The women-led Ark Foundation recognizes entrenched discrimination against women and works to engage men as partners in the fight for gender equality. Unsilenced Voices also leads sensitization trainings focused on building equitable communities.
RWANDA
We provide education about domestic violence and sexual abuse in rural communities and distribute care packages that contain essentials. Through a partnership with IDA and AIMPO, we have been able to implement SPEAK clubs in schools to impact the youth. To help women who have left their abusive partners, Unsilenced Voices has provided business grants to assist in them getting on their feet. Unsilenced Voices also conducts monthly educational and vocational training seminars within the community.
MISSION & VISION
Our mission is to rehabilitate victims of domestic violence and spread awareness to create sustainable change surrounding this epidemic in communities around the globe.
Our vision is to inspire change in communities around the world by encouraging victims to break free and survivors to speak up about domestic violence and sexual defilement.
SPEAKING OUT
Unsilenced Voices exists to break the silence and end the cycle of domestic and gender-based violence. We invite you to join us in creating a world where we can share our stories of survival, celebrate our safety, and stop the cycles of abuse.
In the United States and abroad, victims of domestic violence are silenced not just by their abusers, but by cultural beliefs that domestic violence is a “private” or “family matter.” These beliefs isolate victims, often times allowing violence to escalate.
The United Nations reports that less than 40% of women experiencing domestic violence seek help. The majority of those women reach out to friends or family with less than 10% reaching out to police after experiencing violence. Where Unsilenced Voices operates in Ghana, the Deputy Coordinating Director of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit believes that the actual percentage of people who experience domestic violence is at least double what is reported on surveys. Driving the differences between reported domestic violence and actual domestic violence incidents are beliefs that domestic violence should be handled by family, not law enforcement. Such beliefs more often protect abusers than victims or survivors.
Sponsoring a survivor of abuse can be an important way to support them in their journey towards healing and recovery. Here are a few reasons why:
Financial support: Many survivors of abuse struggle with financial insecurity, especially if they have left an abusive situation and are trying to rebuild their lives. Sponsoring a survivor can provide them with financial assistance for things like housing, transportation, and other basic needs.
Emotional support: Survivors of abuse often feel isolated and alone. Sponsoring a survivor can provide them with a sense of connection and community, knowing that someone cares about them and is willing to invest in their well-being.
Access to resources: Sponsoring a survivor can give them access to resources they might not otherwise have, such as counseling, legal assistance, or job training programs.
Breaking the cycle: Sponsoring a survivor can help break the cycle of abuse by giving them the tools and support they need to build a better future for themselves and their children.
Being a role model: Sponsoring a survivor can be an opportunity to be a role model and to show the survivor that they are worthy and capable of a better life.
In summary, sponsoring a survivor is an important way to provide practical and emotional support, and to help them to regain control over their lives and to build a better future for themselves.
